Totals (Over/Under)

A totals bet (also called Over/Under) is a wager on whether the combined score of both teams will go over or under a number set by the sportsbook.

What is a totals bet?

A totals wager (Over/Under) ignores who wins; you bet on whether the combined final score lands above or below a posted number.

How to read a total

  • O 232.5 (-110); Over wins if the combined score is 233+.
  • U 232.5 (-110); Under wins if the combined score is 232 or fewer.
  • The .5 prevents pushes.

When to use totals

  • Pace-driven games (NBA) where teams’ tempo is well known.
  • Weather plays (NFL, MLB) where wind/rain projects under conditions.
  • Pitcher matchups in MLB.
