e.g. -110, +150, +1000

e.g. 1.91, 2.50, 11.00

e.g. 10/11, 3/2, 10/1

Implied probability --

How the three formats relate

The same bet can be quoted in three formats:

  • American (Moneyline); used in US sportsbooks. Positive numbers show profit on a $100 bet; negative numbers show how much you risk to win $100.
  • Decimal; used in Europe, Australia, and most live betting feeds. Stake × decimal = total payout (stake included).
  • Fractional; used in UK and horse racing. Shows profit relative to stake (e.g. 3/2 means $3 profit on every $2 staked).

Conversion formulas

  • American → Decimal: Positive: (odds / 100) + 1. Negative: (100 / |odds|) + 1.
  • Decimal → American: If decimal ≥ 2: (decimal − 1) × 100. If < 2: −100 / (decimal − 1).
  • Decimal → Fractional: decimal − 1 as a simplified fraction.
  • Implied probability: 1 / decimal × 100%.

Example

An odds of -110 (American) equals:

  • Decimal: 1.909
  • Fractional: 10/11
  • Implied probability: 52.38%

The implied probability is what the sportsbook's line says the outcome is likely to happen. The difference between true probability and implied probability is where bettors find value.
